In the Quiet of Bloom

“In the Quiet of Bloom” is a meditation on presence. Not presence as spectacle, but as a gentle unfolding—the way flowers appear not with noise, but with inevitability. I created this piece to slow things down. To allow space for breath, stillness, and small revelations.

Artist’s Statement

“In the Quiet of Bloom” is a meditation on presence. Not presence as spectacle, but as a gentle unfolding—the way flowers appear not with noise, but with inevitability. I created this piece to slow things down. To allow space for breath, stillness, and small revelations.

Each petal, each curve of stem, was cut and placed not to mimic nature, but to enter into dialogue with it. The torn-paper technique, with all its imperfections, mirrors the natural forms it depicts: nothing is exact, and that is precisely the point. The white background—raw canvas left intentionally visible—serves not as absence, but as invitation.

This piece belongs to silence. To moments before words. To morning light hitting wild blossoms on a quiet trail.

Conceptual Themes

  • Nature as Process, not Object: This is not a bouquet, not a posed still life. It is a living thing in mid-unfolding. The visible white canvas speaks to what’s unfinished, ongoing, or still becoming.

  • Imperfection as Organic Beauty: Torn edges, asymmetries, and layering are embraced as part of the form. Like petals, they are delicate, fleeting, and real.

  • Stillness in Motion: Though nothing physically moves, there is a kinetic feeling—these flowers seem to breathe.

  • The Act of Noticing: In a world of visual noise, this piece insists on subtlety. It rewards the viewer who takes their time.

This work is an ode to the everyday sacredness of nature—quiet, intricate, and overflowing with life.
